Let's hope they get it right.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00600542576843049627noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5501280051833218947.post-59316325492820955122016-11-22T16:24:00.002-08:002016-11-22T16:24:33.378-08:00STILL WAITING!Well here we are again, and yes I am still waiting, can't believe this building company, they said we would have the price weeks ago, now they say another 4 weeks! I would never have gone with them if I knew how crap they are.😡Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00600542576843049627noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5501280051833218947.post-17381342674788096862016-10-15T16:29:00.003-07:002016-10-15T16:29:19.442-07:00Guess what? Yep, still waiting!Well I guess you know we are still waiting for our quote, don't know when we will get it yet. We asked if the storm water could run into the roadside gutter, don't know how long that will slow down the process. As we don't want the whole front yard covered with septic and storm water trenches, I hope that they allow it, sure I read somewhere that it can be done.
If we are lucky it will be sometime this century.

We can't organise any flights, house rental , car rental etc until we have a date from the builder.
So we are in limbo just waiting for the builder to get this quote to us.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00600542576843049627noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5501280051833218947.post-82678962317576917882016-09-29T14:42:00.002-07:002016-10-15T16:35:48.748-07:00And still waiting........Will we ever get a price quote from the builder, at this rate I don't think so. We have the BAL report, soil test, the house plans , and some prices, all we want it the final price, how hard it that?

Seems we have a overlay for land slip, steep land, waterways protection, and scenic corridor. Add that to the dispersive soil, BAL 29 and I sometimes wonder why we started this whole thing off.

From what I read online about dispersive soil it's a very bad thing to have, not supposed to have a septic system as the water sitting on it is a bad thing, even digging a trench to lay a pipe or wire has risks. Tunnelling is a big one, so we have on our plan 3 septic trenches, and one storm water trench that the builders drew up, makes you wonder hey, see if that passes council!

And to top it off we received an email from the builder asking us to sign a form because the council received something from crown land office, seems holding a access licence isn't good enough for them, they want a copy of the whole DA from us, because we are building, I just don't understand why though, we are not building on their land only ours, the licence lets us use their land to cross into our driveway so what else do they need?

Wonder if they realise they have to get the power sorted out with Aurora as they need to get a few poles put down the road and a transformer, that won't be a 5 minute job.
Got a quote to run a driveway up to the house site, just under 4 grand, not sure if that is a good price for a dirt driveway, think they scrape it and put some gravel down, might have to get a couple of quotes on that.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00600542576843049627noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5501280051833218947.post-44743578351357397492016-09-05T01:22:00.001-07:002016-09-05T01:36:21.592-07:00No news is good news?.Well we are still waiting on a final figure for the house build, seems to be taking forever, good job we are not in a rush, but on the other hand geez, how long does it take.

The weather here in Yorkshire is starting to cool down again, not that it been hot, I think it's been about 5 days in total that I have had no jumper or cardigan on out side and that during summer.

We have our house on the councils planning website, so that ends on 13 September if no objections then we are approved.

The plans show where the septic trenches go, right at the front on the left so will have to work out what we can plant there. Seems there is a list of plants that are approved to grow on or near trenches.

We are thinking about shipping our own radiators over, the prices in Australia are a rip off, can't believe what they charge, so looking into the costs. Hydronics are not well known it seems, but they should be.

Flooring choices are tiles, or vinyl not considering wood at this stage as I think it's out of out price range. Light or dark tiles? I can't decide. I know I don't want white floor tile. So there seems to be grey, black, coffee colour, chocolate, which to pick? Then do you have the same tile in the whole house or another colour in the bathrooms laundry and toilet?

Dulux paint for inside the house we can pick 3 colours or pay for more, so if we want every room different we pay.

So thinking.

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00600542576843049627noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5501280051833218947.post-29168646610072627112016-04-06T02:14:00.001-07:002016-04-12T00:32:37.645-07:00Catch up time!

Well it's been a while since I posted last, we are in the Uk renovating our cottage there before putting it on the market. What a mess it was in, the tenants had made us a lot of work, but at least they left when their time was up.
As soon as it sells we are off back to Tasmania, can't come soon enough, the UK is in a right state!

The good news is we sort of have a builder, not signed a contract yet but he is doing soil tests, contour survey, etc so the ball is rolling.

The bad news is we had to have a Bal assessment done, this is for bushfires, this is Australia wide and it determines what you can build with and adds costs on to your build because it add items to your house like thickened glass, fire screens, water tanks, etc and we got a Bal 29, not the worse one but will add another $20 grand or so on to the cost of the house.

So just waiting to hear back from the builder about the tests, the soil there is all sticky clay so I know it's going to be bad, as in extra costs.

On the up side we will start building the house in about 4 or 5 months!

Cheers until next time.

Trying to sway hubby towards building a solar passive house , which he thinks is what mad greenies do, but maybe I will get lucky. I really want the main rooms facing north, the major problem is the we have an amazing view to the west of the Huon River.

I am trying to come up with a plan that makes us both happy, will let you know how that goes.

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00600542576843049627noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5501280051833218947.post-4847611349784459122015-05-16T22:46:00.000-07:002016-09-05T01:27:19.544-07:00A new start.

The story begins with us, John my husband and me, Lorri deciding to live in Tasmania. John is British and lived there all his life until I married him and we moved to Queensland. I was born in the UK too, but my family moved to Australia when I was 5, I sort of went back and forward though the years. After living in Queensland durning my first marriage and bringing up my kids there I moved back to the Uk where I met John. We lived in our little cottage then thought we should go live in Australia, the weather is better etc so off we went to Qld where nearly all my family live.
So we have lived at Victoria Point, a great place for nearly ten years and enjoyed it all except the summers.

Anyway after a stinking hot summer we said why are we doing this, you can't move without sweating, too hot to do anything etc. So we decided to move to Tassie when John retired, never been there before so booked a two week holiday for a look around to see what area we liked so we knew when we where ready to buy which areas we liked.

So we drove up the east coast of Tasmania, leaving from Hobart airport where we picked up a campervan for two weeks. We looked at a few places on the drive up there and loved Wineglass Bay and thought that that area was very nice.
So over the two weeks we drove up and down, never went over the west side as we didn't want to buy over there. There where so many beautiful places on the east coast, then we drove down to the bottom, and when we got to the Huon Valley we knew it was the spot we wanted to be.

So we looked at the real estate agent in Cygnet, and got a list of places we would go look at, and set off, as we only had two days before we had to fly back we thought at least we knew where to buy when we come back.
Then we went to look at some land in Cradoc, 5 acres of bush. As we turned off into the little road we realised it was on the Huon River front! We drove up the road at the front and walked up the driveway it was so beautiful we said right away we want it!

So we rang the agent who told us sorry, it had been sold and she gave us another block to look at down the road but it was too hard to build on, so gave that idea up.
We rang the agent back and was told to put in a offer if we wanted as on the first block as the people had to sell their house first before they could buy it, which we did we raced back to the office and filled in the contract, we were leaving the next morning so it was a rush.

When we where at the airport got a message from agent saying we had the block! The people said they couldn't sell their house, so we are now the proud owners of a 5 acre bit of heaven.
